Puppies chew. Shoes, paper, lego and yes, even furniture! DogsĀ start teething when they areĀ a few months old and this went on with our dogs until they were about 18 months old (especially when they got bored or anxious).Ā
Dedicated enrichment toys can help (for example our Pebble enrichment toy or Twirl lick mat). We recommend using the puppy proof side guards with Teddy, especially for young dogs and chewers, to protect the birch plywood from sharp teeth. Our crate covers are the best option for heavy chewers, as they elegantly disguise the robust wire crate inside.
When introduced positively and used appropriately, many dogs benefit from having a calm, secure space of their own.
Crates can support:
- puppy training and toilet routines
- better sleep and settling
- recovery after illness or surgery
- safer introductions to new environments
- calmer daily routines and boundaries
Many dogs naturally seek den-like spaces to rest and feel secure. The key is ensuring the crate is introduced gradually, associated positively and never used as punishment.
At The Paws Room, we believe crates should feel like a safe retreat rather than confinement, with thoughtful design that helps dogs stay connected to the home while still having a space of their own.
