FAQ about The Paws Room and our dog crate furniture

Does The Paws Room have a shop?

Our virtual store is opening soon! In the meantime, call us on 0448 889 375 to make an appointment for our Brisbane-based showroom.

What size is right for my dog?

The S/M Teddy and Archie are perfect for dogs that are small in stature but big on brains and affection, including Cavoodles, Spoodles, Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, Maltese, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Silky Terriers, Chinese Crested Dogs, Miniature Schnauzers, Bichon Frises, Yorkshire Terriers, Pekingese, Shih Tzus, Japanese Chins, Havanese, Miniature Pinschers, Brussels Griffons, Papillons, Affenpinschers, and Pugs.

The Large Teddy  is medium dogs like and M Jack crate cover Staffordshire Terrier, Australian Shepherd, Cattle Dog and Beagle, to the Border Collie, Cocker Spaniel, Bulldog, Corgi and Schnauzer. If you are not sure that your dog will have quite enough space in the S/M, we recommend upsizing to the Large.

Harley and the XL Teddy and Jack crate cover are the best options for even larger breeds such as labradors, golden retrievers, groodles, german sherpherds, weimeranas, poodles and greyhounds. It fits neatly over the XL Kmart dog crate or other 42 inch wire dog crates.

Why do your crates cost more?

We value good design. We prioritise sustainable materials. And we subscribe to the ethos of less is more.

With Teddy, for example, your dog crate also serves as a beautiful side table, bench seat and storage solution all in one piece. Think of your Paws Room furniture as a durable investment that will become an integral part of your home.

Why might I need to wait 2-3 weeks?

Wherever we can, we look to minimise waste, maximise durability and optimise the number of processes involved in production and shipping. In line with this approach, all our furniture is made to order.

Will my dog chew on their crate?

Puppies chew. Shoes, paper, lego and yes, even furniture! Dogs start teething when they are a few months old and this went on with our dogs until they were about 18 months old (especially when they got bored or anxious).

Dedicated toys can help (for example our Baker hemp rope toy is designed to hang from the inside of the Teddy crate for distraction). We recommend using the perspex side sliders with Teddy, especially for young dogs and chewers, to protect the birch plywood from sharp teeth.

Should I crate train my dog?

We had no idea how positive the crate experience would be for our dogs, especially our more anxious Shar Pei, Paolo. The RSPCA explain it better!

"Crate training your dog can be an effective training tool for puppies and adult dogs. Crate training your dog to accept and enjoy their crate must be done correctly, and takes time and effort; but it comes with many benefits, especially in relation to toilet training, and provides your dog with a safe space. However, crate training is not right for all dogs and should never take the place of appropriate exercise and enrichment. Dogs should not be left alone for prolonged periods (in or out of a crate)."
